RC27 Catamaran

NEW! RC 27 Catamaran 1987/2010 Euro-Style, One of Four All-Carbon Boats. The owner of the largest privately owned bank in Switzerland commissioned two of Bill Robert's legendary hulls in carbon. He added a large chord Favre carbon wing mast and carbon beams, custom carbon high aspect ratio boards, and a 19+ foot carbon bowsprit from the finest Swiss craftsmen. The gooseneck, chainplates, striker strap, etc. are titanium.

After a successful racing career in Europe we brought her back to the states. She has just completed a total survey and refit with the mast and hulls completely stripped and infrared thermographed. All need improvements have been followed by total refairing, an amazing silver gray paint job, and a 4000 grit Baltoplate racing bottom.

A '08 custom Load-Rite trailer with extendable arms allows the fully assembled and masted boat to be easily moved and launched. She also has cat wheels, carbon reinforced with new carpet. Three good trap harnesses and all gear are included. A 4hp two cylinder, two stroke fully refurbished Johnson on a custom removable bracket, with internal or external tanks, offers the best weight/torque ratio of any outboard.

The sailplan is Swiss "Lake Monster" style with two sets of Swiss Kevlar sails including reefable fat head mains, self-tacking blade jibs, and huge masthead genakers and a Genoa on the sprit. An old Tornado main is included as a storm sail and for short-handed deliveries. All the big sails on the sprit have Bartels continuous line furling drums for ease of handling and fast maneuvers.

Harken and Frederiksen gear, rod diamonds and headstay, tramp re-built with Teflon thread '09-'10 with lots of extra pouches and pockets, mostly Vectran and Spectra rigging. Builder's site is http://www.aquarius-sail.com/catamarans/rc27/index.htm.  She is in the water ready for full-on racing or blasting around. Very quick, she rates with Formula 40's. Equipped with the best of everything, at $65,500 she represents a striking knots per dollar value. Contact Ted (ted@grossbart.com), 781 631-5011 for more details.

NEREUS (formerly Zachery D.) for sale

NEREUS is a Warren 27 (her overall length is nearly 29') is a racing boat with some comforts, (seats) yet she remains light. Built of composite and wood in current configuration, she was completed in 1999. One of the faster trimarans in her class in racing trim as sailed by Ted Warren, her designer/builder (see NEMA racing results for Zachary D. from 2001). As second owners we have sailed her at 27 knots with four people aboard without fuss. Her stiff construction combined with 27' beam and 250% buoyancy floats gives exceptional stability and a great ride. Despite her size, she is easy to sail with a light, neutral helm. Sale includes all running rigging, a jib roller-furler (to be sold without jib), and two custom tillers with extensions and two winches, and a Yamaha 8 hp long-shaft outboard.

The slender main hull and amas have no accommodations except for an optional porta-pottie in the rear hatch. Crew and helmsperson sit in comfortable chairs mounted on the amas. Large trampolines offer non-racing guests considerable space. For someone wishing to race or move up from beach catamarans to a larger faster multihull, this trimaran is an ideal choice.

NEREUS has been extensively refitted during the 05/07 seasons with new running and standing rigging, new wood/carbon-fiber rudder and centerboard, new paint, sail repairs, trampoline repairs and new line bags. She is priced at $30,000 US. May be seen in Salem Harbor by appointment.   Meyer Spivack 781 631-1932 or mayer@alum.mit.edu.
